About this course
The MOOC Course The European Union as agent of change, is the second course from the "Europe for Citizens Program" project #CITIZEU : The impact of the Euroscepticism on the construction of Europe, a project led by the Gijón City Council and with the collaboration as partners of Nuremberg, Genoa, Alba Iulia, AEKS (NGO from Vääksy), CEPS (think tank in Brussels) and the University of Oviedo.
The aim of the project is to engage citizens in six cities to, understand the European Union and achieve a basic knowledge of its institutions, history, achievements and its multilevel governance approach. The project wants to promote an understanding and discussion of the reasons behind the current rise of Euroscepticism and its impact on the future of the European project. The project wants to go in depth about the origins and consequences of Euroscepticism in the present European stage.
Moreover, this project has as a goal to contribute to improve the understanding of the EU image, the promotion of citizen participation, European Citizenship and identity, as well as tolerance and understanding of the different European countries.
The activities of the project involve three kinds of actions: two MOOC Courses, the opening of an online platform of citizen participation and the celebration of six transnational citizen dialogues.
Within that context, the present MOOC Course would like to provide a basic knowledge about the EU in order to improve the information about Europe; also, we would like to provide skills and tools for the debate. As an online course, we expect achieve a big impact on not only the European associations and citizens promoted by the partners, but also the general public. Everybody could follow the course, so we hope to have a great impact on the society through using different channels (social networks; universities, media, and so on).
This Second course will be focused on:

Lesson 1: Globalization an EU-scepticism.

Lesson 2: European pillar of social rights.

Lesson 3: Immigration.

Lesson 4: Equality, non-discrimination and non-violence.

Lesson 5: EU growth and cohesion.

Lesson 6: EU elections and the EU future.
Objectives
The MOOC Course The European Union as agent of change aims to achieve several goals as the following ones:

Provide skills and tools for the debate and dialogue about the Future of Europe in the global World.

Provide a basic knowledge about the EU in order to improve the information about Europe.

Promote and foster the European citizenship and citizen participation in EU affairs.
These goals are formed inside of this second MOOC Course, where each user will find enough information to develop a proactive awareness of EU affairs and its position as a citizen of the European Union.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE PARTICIPANTS
The course is directed to everyone interested at the thematic, without the necessity of having any kind of previous basic notion, with the exception of having some skills at the use of online platform where the course is carrying out.
