1. Objectives

Once you have read the documentation and participated in the activities that we propose in lesson 5, European growth and cohesion, you will be able to:

• Know the different Structural and investment Funds and differentiate it.
• Appreciate the importance of the EU action in the development of the member States  through the different instruments they have.

2. Contents

In this topic we wanted to analyze the European growth and cohesion policies, and the instruments need it for their consecution. Structural and Investment Funds (SIF), is the correct term today, although we used to called them «Structural Funds». However, this two terms are different, the Structural and Investment Funds are a combination of different founds directed to regions that now are in a single regulatory framework.

The basic content that you will find in the lesson is the following:

• Historical development of Structural and Investment Funds and Cohesion.
• Areas financed by the European budget.
• ERDF and ESF: eligibility requirements.
• The Cohesion Fund: eligibility requirements.
• Programming of the funds.
• Thematic aims.
• Allocation of funds by member states.

• Next financial framework.

4. Objetivos

Cuando veas la videolección, leas la documentación y participes en las actividades que te proponemos en la Lección 5. Crecimiento y Cohesión en la UE, serás capaz de: 

• Conocer los distintos Fondos Estructurales y de Inversión y distinguir las diferencias entre ellos.
• Valorar la importancia de la acción de la Unión Europea en el desarrollo de los Estados miembros a través de los diferentes instrumentos de que dispone.

5. Contenidos

En esta lección hemos querido analizar la política europea de desarrollo y cohesión, así como los instrumentos dedicados a su consecución. "Fondos Estructurales y de Inversión" (Fondos EIE) es el término correcto en la actualidad, aunque aún solemos referirnos a ellos simplemente como "Fondos Estructurales". Sin embargo, ambas denominaciones no son sinónimas, pues los Fondos EIE son una combinación de diferentes Fondos dirigidos a las regiones, que ahora se encuentran en un único marco regulatorio.
