1. Objectives

Once you have read the documentation and participated in the activities that we propose in Lesson 4, Discrimination in the European Union, you will be able to: 

• Understand the premise for opposing discrimination.
• Distinguish between prejudice, xenophobia and discrimination.
• Know the relevant measures taken by the European Union to tackle the phenomenon of discrimination.

2. Contents

In this lesson we wanted to address one of the basic rights of the human being, which is equality, whose fundamental character makes it cross-protected in different European Union regulations, sometimes even through measures that establish different treatment depending on the collective that you want to protect.

However, there are many attitudes that put it at risk and that reach their maximum danger when they become actions.

The basic content that you will find here is directed to the analysis of all these aspects:

• The concept and types of equality and the areas in which it is protected.
• Attitudinal risks for equality (prejudice, xenophobia, racism and discrimination).
• Fight means against discrimination in the European Union.

4. Objetivos

Una vez que hayas leído la documentación y participado en las actividades que proponemos en la Lección 4, Discriminación en la Unión Europea, podrás:

• Comprender la premisa de oponerse a la discriminación.
• Distinguir entre prejuicio, xenofobia y discriminación.
• Conocer las medidas relevantes tomadas por la Unión Europea para enfrentar el fenómeno de la discriminación.

5. Contenidos

En esta lección hemos querido abordar uno de los derechos básicos del ser humano, que es la igualdad, cuyo carácter fundamental hace que esté protegido transversalmente en distinta normativa de la Unión Europea, a veces incluso a través de medidas que establecen tratos distintos en función del colectivo al que se quiere amparar. 

Sin embargo existen muchas actitudes que lo ponen en riesgo y que alcanzan su máximo peligro cuando se convierten en acciones.

El contenido básico que encontrarás aquí se dirige al análisis todos estos aspectos:

• El concepto y tipos de igualdad y los ámbitos en que esta se protege.
• Los riesgos actitudinales para la igualdad (prejuicios, xenofobia, racismo y discriminación).
• Medios de lucha contra la discriminación en la Unión Europea.
