About this course
The MOOC Course Europe is you: a basic course about the EU, Second Edition, it's the first course from the "Europe for Citizens Program" project #CITIZEU : The impact of the Euroscepticism on the construction of Europe, a project leaded by the Gijón City Council and with the collaboration as partners of Nuremberg, Genoa, Alba Iulia, AEKS (NGO from Vääksy), CEPS (think tank from Brussels) and the University of Oviedo.
The aim of the project it's to engage citizens in five cities to, first understand the European Union, a basic knowledge of its institutions, history, achievements and its multilevel governance approach. On the other hand, the project wants to promote an understanding and discussion of the reasons behind the current rise of Euroscepticism and its impact on the future of the European project. The project wants to go in depth about the origins and consequences of the Euroscepticism in the actual European stage.
Moreover, this project has as a goal to contribute to improve the understanding of the EU, image, promotion of citizen participation, European Citizenship, identity, as well as tolerance and understanding of the different European countries.
The activities of the project involved three kinds of actions: two MOOC Courses, the opening of an online platform of citizen participation and the celebration of five transnational citizen dialogues.
Inside of that context, the present MOOC Course would like to provide a basic knowledge about EU in order to improve the information about Europe; also, we would like to provide skills and tools for the debate. As an online course, we expect to get a big impact on not only the European associations and citizens promoted by the partners, but also the general public. Everybody could follow the course, so we hope to have a great impact on the society through using different channels (social networks; universities, media, and so on).
This first course will be focused on:
Lesson 1: Past, Present and Future of the EU.
Lesson 2: Citizenship of the European Union.
Lesson 3: Knowing the European Union.
Lesson 4: The decision making of the EU.
Lesson 5: How does the EU action affect the Justice?
Lesson 6: The day to day of the EU.
The MOOC Course Europe is you: a basic course about the European Union aims to achieve several goals as the following ones
Provide skills and tools for the debate and dialogue about the Future of Europe in the global World.
Provide a basic knowledge about the EU in order to improve the information about Europe.
Promote and foster the European citizenship and citizen participation in EU affairs
These goals are formed inside of this first MOOC Course, where each user will find enough information to develop a proactive awareness of EU affairs and its position as a citizen of the European Union.
Patricia Herrero de la Escosura
PhD in Public Law from the University of Granada, she is a Professor at the University of Oviedo and director of this MOOC course.
She has a long university career during which she has developed her teaching and research in the fields of Financial and Tax Law, Applied Economics and Law of the European Union. For the last 20 years, she has participated in several research and dissemination activities, both about European integration in general and European tax matters in particular, which have been reflected in different courses, meetings and publications.
Among her activities of diffusion of the European identity stand out her participation in the projects «Living Europe» and «The European Union at School» as a coordinator of workshops for students of secondary education, bachelor and vocational training. As well, she was the coordinator of the organization of the International Congress about the «Effects of European integration about the economic and fiscal approximation of the member states».
Enrique Rodríguez Martín
PhD in Public Law from the University of Oviedo. Currently, he is Head of its Department of European and International Affairs at the City Council of Gijón. Under this responsibility, he promotes the presentation of European and International Projects by the different municipal services to different European and International calls; and represents the city in European and international networks (EUROCITIES).
Recently, he has been invited by the European Committee of the Region to present the local strategy about "tackling Euroscepticism at a local level" (EUROPCOM 2017). Also, he has acted as advisor to the Mayor of Gijón in the Opinion of the Committee of the Regions on the European Social Fund and the PROGRESS Program (2007-2013). On the other hand he had participated in different URBACT InfoDays in Spain (2017).
Among other works, he has coordinated the monographic of the ABACO magazine related to the Atlantic Arc (2004) and he has directed different workshops on the European and international agenda of Spanish cities. Currently, among his tasks, highlights the coordinator of different European projects: 2nd Chance (URBACT III), CITIZEU (Europe for citizens), AYCH (INTERREG A.E.) and CLEAR (Erasmus+). Also, he is working on the implementation of the Urban Agenda in different meetings organized by the National Ministries.
Irene Fernández Menéndez
Bachelor of Education and Licentiate in Pedagogy by the University of Oviedo. Currently, Irene is studying an Online Education and E-learning Master Degree at Open University of Catalonia (UOC).
Irene is the coordinator of the innovation team of ASAC Communications, who offers his services to the Innovation Center of the University of Oviedo. Since January of 2007, her main duties are to be Pedagogue at the Innovation Center of the University of Oviedo (C1NN) and collaborate with other institutions, such as "Adolfo Posada" Asturian Institute of Public Administration (IAAP) or Institute for Educational Research and Innovation of the University of Oviedo.
At the Innovation Center of the University of Oviedo her main duties are offer pedagogical advice for teachers, user support, develop user help guide explaining how to use the online teaching platform of the University, and she also organized innovation events and OpenCourseWare (OCW)
Ana Isabel González González
PhD in Law from the University of Oviedo, she is a Professor at this University. Actually, she is academic secretary of the Master for Lawyer, director of Oviedo University Press and president of the Union of Spanish University Publishers.
Her teaching and research career has been developed in the field of Financial and Tax Law, a subject on which he has published different works, especially on regional financing and European tax law. Holder of a Jean Monnet Module in 2006, since then he has coordinated several information and research projects about European integration, three of them in the program "Teaching the EU at the School". ERASMUS coordinator in Faculty of Law with the Universities of Toulouse, Montpellier, Bologna, Lusíada in Lisbon and Naples Parthenope.
Corresponding academic of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence of Asturias since May 2013, she is a member of AUDESCO (ECSA Spain), a Spanish university association of professors and researchers specialized in European integration and she has participated in the European network "I Mediterranean".
Elena Rozas López
Licentiate in Pedagogy by the University of Oviedo. Expert in ICT Educational Management and E-learning Environment Development by Open University of Catalonia (UOC)
She has a lot of experience of tutoring online and as a mediator of learning, and also she has been designing educational resources for private companies.
In 2017 she started to be a part of the innovation team of ASAC Communications, who offers his services to the Innovation Center of University of Oviedo.
At the Innovation Center, she is directly involved in the implementation of a program to create MOOCs to the University of Oviedo, offering pedagogical advice to teachers and participating in the setting up of this platform.
She also provides user support, develops user help guide explaining how to use the online learning platform of the University and searching for innovative teaching resources.
